Hands-off approach with cotton towel composting test in ANC worm bin - vermicompost
Instead of excavating & examining the cotton towel, it is explicitly avoided during this check-in so that perhaps in a future check-in some clearly visible progress can be observed

    If the goal is to get the bins to equal population I think it is futile . Worms do what they want and populate as they want so one bin may be faster breeders than the rest . Good luck.

      Technically speaking, you are absolutely correct on all points :) However... if the feedback I get in the comments and the calculation in my tracking spreadsheet combine to give us matching worm counts in the buckets, then I think that would be kinda cool. Haha! Remember to please chime in with your estimates for how many additional worms were added to buckets #1 & #2 👍🏻

      I've never used sawdust - so I can't speak from experience. If I watch or 'view' the whole of the video. How much money do you make off of that? Like .25 cents? Serious question, not a troll here. It doesn't matter to me, I like the creator. Just like to get a guess of how YT works.

    • @A-V
      @A-V 6 днів тому

      UA-cam revenue varies constantly from video to video and from day to day. Basically though, the revenue is quantified by 'RPM' (revenue per mille), which means a certain amount is paid per every one thousand ad views (not video views). So if my average video displays 2 or 3 ads, then that one view of my video accounts for a tiny fraction of one thousand ad views... which can pay out (before taxes) a couple bucks. As an example - my RPM average over the past 28 days was $3.31 - and at the present time my channel is getting very low views, averaging around 2 or 3 thousand views per day. And if it weren't for a couple of my 'evergreen' time-lapse videos that account for a large percentage of those views, those numbers would be far, far less. Kinda makes me ask myself sometimes why I devote so much time to it......

    • @ClickinChicken
      @ClickinChicken 6 днів тому

      @@A-V wow thanks AV! When I watched this video I saw dashes on the playtime but was never broke in for a commercial, which most people patiently wait 5 seconds for until 'Skip ad'. And I don't pay for no ads. It's always good to see your sailing videos, with the music. Makes me smile.

    • @A-V
      @A-V 5 днів тому

      I specify where I'd like for the ads to appear... but since the ad spaces are sold in an auction style, sometimes the ad spaces go unsold and no ad appear. Basically, there's a large amount of variability in revenue earnings on my videos :)

    I've been spraying mosquito bits solution in my worm bin every time I check in, and noticed my worm bin is wetter than it should be. And still has flying insects. I started tossing in the BTI bits without adding them to water, and this morning when I checked it, the flyers seemed fewer in number. May be a solution.

    • @A-V
      @A-V 8 днів тому

      So if I understood you... then your thinking on the subject is that the solution might be to not have a solution? :P Haha! My original theory on why my flying insect issue is lingering on for longer than it should is because of the BTI solution that was too old - so I'm going to try to refresh the stuff more frequently than I had in the past - and cease dilution it. Hopefully that will do the trick. Keepin my fingers crossed for better results. I'm glad to hear that you've seen some improvement with your situation 👍🏻

      Even as far back as Return of the Jedi I was starting to get turned off by stuff like Ewoks. Then in Phantom Menace the introduction of ridiculous physical humor with Jar Jar Binks and other annoying Gungan characters was distracting and would've been better left out. Then in later films all the terrible things they did to the classic characters while pushing girl-boss characters to the forefront in the most far fetched ways. At this point I doubt there's any redeeming what used to be something truly iconic

    The cool thing is like hot biological compost they do get rid of the dangerous pathogens like the hot process does in hot compost in 3’x3’ min size piles. The other filter against bad pathogens is fixing compaction to make sure soil is aerobic as a lot of anerobic(without oxygen) is where the bad pathogens exist, but to do that you you need organic matter and stuff and the way nature tend to do it and thus is not a method the usdsa acknowledges but it’s simply by overwhelming the bad bacteria with good ones and they keep them in check or make them go dormant

    Hey there AV i used this method to separate castings for the first time (got the idea from you) and it worked great. The last few times I had mature bins I just dumped the whole thing into the garden beds, rather than deal with separating out the worms. But this time I wanted to separate clean castings. I just used a cardboard divider and added very wet food burritos (food rolled up in brown packing paper) on the other side. Had a slow but sure migration of at least 95% of the worms over to the food. Made it very easy to harvest Just wanted to say thanks.

      Hmmm... sounds like a pretty good idea. It would get a bunch of finished castings out of the way & give the wormies a chance at refining the stuff that's presently in a clumpy state. And then they could also be treated to a bunch of nice fresh bedding too... which is something they haven't had in some time now :)
